I caved over the weekend and finally signed up at Tumblr. That place is
evil. I can already see how Tumblr can go from being a daily habit to a full on addiction. It reminded me of the Gay Best Friend discovering YouTube years ago and lamenting at what an incredibly addictive time-waster it was, how hours could go by and he’d be sitting in his office watching videos instead of, you know, actually working. YouTube has nothing on Tumblr. Shit.
With that dubious intro you can drop by and say ‘Hi’ (or whatever else you want to say like, “You’re still alive?!!”) at:
http://morrow-dim.tumblr.comI’m still figuring stuff out over there. You’ve been warned. :-)
* * * * * While this poor journal has been completely neglected for nearly two years (again!), that doesn’t mean I haven’t been writing or involved in fandom. In fact, I’ve been writing all year. I don’t think I’ve written this much since my early days in LotR. The output this year includes a lengthy
Justified series set during season four composed of four stories that I wrote over the summer. The series is complete and is called
Under the Black Light. It’s a Raylan/Tim epic (because of course I ship the marginalized pairing and not the more ‘canonical’ Raylan/Boyd). I’ve continued Tim and Raylan’s story in “A Tipsy Turvy Sky,” currently one of my bigger WIPs. It would be awesome if I could get that fic done before the next season of
Justified actually airs.
The fandom that I’m immersed in now, and have been for the past several months, is
Pacific Rim. The OTP that I ship there is Raleigh/Herc, another marginalized pairing. I’m two thirds of the way through the
Drifting trilogy featuring these two. (Readers voted for a happy ending where Chuck lives and god that’s giving my angst side conniptions. No wonder the third part is stalled.) To distract myself, I (unintentionally) began a magnum opus (over 60, 000 words and counting) called
Now the Day is Over, also a Raleigh/Herc story set pre-film. I’m hoping to wrap that up before Christmas.
Recently (as in the past week recently), I’ve branched out a bit in
Pacific Rim writing a Herc/Yancy story and a Raleigh/Yancy story. (The sibling incest bug finally bit. Sam? Dean? This is your fault. Once I started down that road in SPN there was no turning back.) But,
come on. Raleigh? Yancy? Those guys are freaking hot!
All in all, 2013 has been a terrible year for me in all aspects of my life. There was a week in July where everything, and I do mean
everything – my work, my personal life, my family, my finances and hell, even my
technology – imploded. It was spectacular in a horrifying way. I still haven’t really recovered, but I guess I’m getting there. Slowly. I think that’s why I’ve written so much this year. The worse my life gets, the more my creativity flourishes. This is catharsis in action. Fandom has kept me afloat.
So, if you want to check out any of the new fic you can find me at:
http://archiveofourown.org/users/menel.
I carry the same handle over there as this journal.
I've also dabbled a bit in
The Covenant (that amazingly bad but scrumptious film of teenage witches, warlocks, whatever you want to call them – that film was made to be slashed!) and
Spartacus (now
that show knew how to go out in style). In case you’re wondering, I ship Spartacus/Gannicus, the most marginalized of marginalized pairings that I’ve mentioned so far.
Such is life.
Hope to see you around!
